The 14th annual release of the renowned Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrel Proof is drawn from hand-selected barrels aged in historic Warehouse C at Buffalo Trace Distillery. This expression is bottled straight from the barrel—uncut and unfiltered—at a bold 127.4 proof, preserving the full intensity of the spirit. The mash bill mirrors Buffalo Trace’s low-rye “Mash Bill #1,” giving a foundation of rich corn sweetness layered with mature oak and spice.
This release is best enjoyed neat in a Glencairn or tulip glass, allow a minute for the rich aromas to open after bottling. Because of its high proof, add a single drop of water or a large ice cube if desired, which will open further layers of dark fruit and oak without diluting the experience. Best enjoyed slowly to appreciate the evolving complexity. Pairs well with dark chocolate, toasted pecans or a bold cigar.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Deep caramel, dark cherry compote, seasoned oak and a hint of cocoa.
Palate: Full-bodied with vanilla bean, toffee, dark fruit preserves, roasted pecan and a touch of black pepper.
Finish: Long and warming with lingering charred oak, tobacco leaf and a satin-smooth spice-driven fade.
